Which Powerball Model is Suitable for Rehabilitation?

Modified on Wed, 26 Mar at 5:32 PM

Powerball is an exceptionally effective tool for rehabilitating an injury in the hand, finger, wrist, forearm or elbow. Some common injuries that Powerball can be used to rehabilitate are:

  • Carpal tunnel
  • Tennis elbow
  • Golfer's elbow
  • RSI
  • Tendonitis

While it cannot rehabilitate conditions like arthritis and Parkinson's disease, it can effectively be used to increase blood flow and thus reduce pain symptoms from these conditions.

For rehabilitative purposes, we usually recommend 250Hz and 280Hz Powerball models. These inherently generate less resistance than our powerful metal range models and so, are more suitable for gentle rehab. For injury recovery, we recommend that you spin Powerball at very slow speeds: 1-5 minutes per day at slow speeds for recovery/rehab and 1-3 minutes per day at high speeds for strengthening is usually our recommendation.

Our 350Hz Metal Series models (Hybrid, Titan, Diablo, Ionic) are really only suitable for pure strengthening. In most cases, they can be used for rehab if needed, but absolutely at VERY SLOW speeds. Even then, they will generate a resistance which we don't recommend for people with an existing injury - only those who are pretty much post-recovery or starting to feel the onset of an injury.

In terms of the polycarbonate range, any of our 280Hz models will do for rehab purposes - the one you choose just depends on your starting preference (Cord-start or Autostart), LCD tracking (Pro or Classic) and then Fusion or other (with or without lights). You can read more on these features in our article Which Powerball is Right for Me?.

How Does Powerball Rehabilitate?

Exercising with Powerball massively increases circulation and promotes the flow of oxygen-rich nutrients along the entire kinetic chain of the arm. These nutrients target and treat an injury at its source, actively repairing and rehabilitating damaged muscle tissue and relieving pain fast. Best of all, exercise with Powerball is 100% non-impact, so it will never worsen your injury or cause you further pain.
